> WHISTLER'S BROTHER by Br0derbund

• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Whistler's Brother by Broderbund is a bizarre platform game in which you play the part of an archaeologist accompanied by your accident prone brother, who you have to help around the levels by whistling. Whistling makes him follow your current movement, so you have to carefully select your direction and get your timing right to make your brother follow you around while avoiding the many dangers. You also need to gather up all the rare treasures on each level and plug the gaps by transforming into a whirlwind to allow your brother to pass over the platforms safely. I told you it was bizarre!

The graphics aren't too bad for a basic platform game and it plays fairly well.

It's frustrating at times and takes a while to get into but overall it's not a bad game with quite an original concept. Worth a look if you like tricky platform action.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I played a trained version that allowed me to skip to the last level. I then worked my way through the final one.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: At the end of the thirteenth level, your brother collects the final artefact after you have bridged the final gap for him to pass. You leave the boat where an end message is displayed above them at the port within the background graphics. The message reads 'WELCOME HOME BOYS. MOM'. Another message pops up to confirm that you have retrieved all from chapter thirteen before the game loops back to the start.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: A shocking ending but a decent little game. Worth a play, but the ending leaves a lot to be desired. 1/10.

  • Vinny: Oh dear... this is one of those 'blink and you'll miss it' kind of endings. There's really not much to it and a total let down :( 1/10 from me too.
  • Andrew Fisher: Fascinating - years before Abe's Oddysey used noises to control a second character.

Such a dull ending at the end of a very experimental game.
  • Andy Vaisey: Don't know this game, but a great original concept. Thumbs up!

Now rotate the hand into thumbs down, for the ending...

FINAL SAY: Tut-tut. Another awful ending.

G.E. RATING: 1 / 10
