The Vikings is a arcade scrolling shoot'em up that plays similar to the Commodore 64 version of Rambo: First Blood. Unfortunately, it's one of those games that falls victim to having superb intro graphics and game music, but the game itself is seriously lacking in excitement and longevity. The only reason why I stumbled upon this ending is because I revisited an old issue of ZZAP! 64 magazine and read the feature about the software company called Kele Line, which is the company that produced this game. It funny because there is this whole feature about how they are going to produce quality games, and then the review of their first game actually appears in the same issue and only receives 55% from the ZZAP! reviewers. Oh dear...

And so the game is complete.

Game Over.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I have got no idea. It has been in the OFFLINE ARCHIVE for some time and there was no name against it!

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once the game is completed, the ending message appears, which reads: 'CONGRATULATIONS BRAVE VIKING YOU HAVE COMPLETE THE GAME'. This is accompanied by a picture of our hero sitting on a throne. There is also an ending tune by Ben Daglish.

  • Vinny: Hmmmm... I'm not so keen on the visuals or the message in this ending, but the music by Ben Daglish is good. A substandard ending that is only worth seeing because of the music.

  • Andy Vaisey: Thanks for the heads up. Don't remember this, so just read the interview, review and looked at the ending. After all the talk in the interview, this 'new' company seemed to produce sub-standard clones. The Vikings is just a rubbish Rambo/Commando clone and the ending is pretty poor. Very poor in fact...

  • Andrew Fisher: Nice that there is an extra piece of music, but a fairly low-quality effort. Kele Line never really conquered the software scene, did they?

  • Matthew Rogers: The only Kele Line game I remember playing was the Tiger Heli rip-off, Tiger Mission - rock hard! I see this even has the same colour palette. As for the end, I'm ashamed to say I like the little picture - reminds me of Time Tunnel! ;) But, still...the score is correct.

  • Brendan Phoenix: Defo 2nd the Time Tunnel comment - very similar. It's just a ho-hum ending for a ho-hum game.

  • Gaz Spence: Regarding Kele Line games, I actually like Zyrons Escape but even that is a clone of Son of Blagger. As for The Vikings, the concept is pretty cool but it's sadly lacking in execution. The ending is very bland.

FINAL SAY: Ben Daglish saves the day.
