When the Transformers
cartoon first appeared on UK TV back in the 80s I was
hooked and would sit and watch every episode; but my
passion for the TV programme didn't extend to the
numerous toys and figures that were available then - I
spent most of my pocket money on computer games. So when
this game appear on the shelves of our local computer
game store I rushed across the road to my local bank and
withdrew and nice, fresh, crisp tenner and dashed back
to the shop to acquire the game - one of the rare
moments when I purchased a full priced game. When I got
home and loaded it up, I fell in love with it straight
Transformers by Ocean is a
great platformer that has you swapping through four of
the main characters to collect pieces of the
Transformers ident, which, when placed in position, will
complete the game. Each character has different
abilities and so playing each one to their strengths
will get you through the game.
I spent HOURS playing this
one over and over again, and then eventually, after many
days playing, I completed it - without cheating may I
THAT'S IT?! NO WAY! The
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
Neil completed it using a huge amount of save states within a C64
emulator saying, "It is impossible to complete without some
help." Actually - it isn't; it just needs skill and
SO WHAT HAPPENS?: After collecting all 4 pieces of
the Autobot’s logo and returning them to the frame at
the base you get a pause for a few seconds while your
bonus points are calculated and then…… you start all
As much as I love this game I was very disappointed by
this ending. After spending so much time and effort on
this I expected a few fireworks and a fanfare - at
least! 1/10 from me.
One of the worst endings I’ve seen. At least I’ve only
wasted an hour of my life playing it. Don’t bother lads…
it’s not worth it. 1/10.
- Andrew Fisher:
Personally I felt it was one of the weakest games by
Denton Designs, although it is more fun to play than
Activision's effort. To see it end like that is pretty
- Andy Vaisey:
Great... now I'll be humming the theme tune all day.
Never liked this game and the ending doesn't inspire me
to change my mind.
- Brendan Phoenix:
I remember buying the game, playing it, thinking it was
awful and bringing it back to the shop (using the old
birthday present excuse - already has it, etc) and got
Bounty Bob instead.
The right choice was made.
FINAL SAY: Worth
playing, but not worth completing :(
