Time for some ape-like antics with Toki. Happens all the time doesn't it? One day you're a normal bloke, next thing you know an evil wizard turns you into an ape and kidnaps your girlfriend. Well that's what happened to our hero in this game. Its a platform game where you get to spit at your enemies. Nice one!

SPLAT!

GO ON MY SON!

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used an infinite lives cheat and then battled through the 5 frustrating levels. Ending up in the dark forest caves.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: I reached the end of the final level to do battle with the wizard - who manifests himself as a large pair of hands and feet, which attack you. Unfortunately for the wizard, he also appears as a floating heart which I proceeded to shoot the hell out of. After a lot of jumping about and shooting I finally caused the wizard's heart to explode into tiny pieces. Your girlfriend is then free and your days as a monkey are over. The game ends with a romantic scene of the couple kissing with a row of hearts above them. A funky piece of music plays and then you are shown the high score table.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Good ending. I'm surprised the young man has the energy to kiss after all that spitting. Still, good to see the hero get the girl and the wizard destroyed. 7/10.
  • Vinny: I've only really played this game on my Amiga and haven't spent that much time looking/playing it on my C64. Probably should.

The ending is good: cool music, nice picture etc. I'm going for 6/10.
  • Andrew Fisher: It's a great game on cartridge, really making use of the format. Mind you, it was a slightly obscure choice by Ocean at the time, but it worked out brilliantly. Very good ending, and worth playing through the (tough) game for.
  • Andy Vaisey: Hard as nails game that fortunately has just about a decent enough ending to make the effort worthwhile. Just.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Not 100% accurate to the arcade (but pretty close) can understand them not showing the transformation scene but surely they could have put the ending text in??

However it is nice to see a pretty decent effort from Ocean, half decent conversion as well.

FINAL SAY: Nice animated end with some cool music. Well worth the effort.

G.E. RATING: 6.5 / 10
