Toadforce by Players software is another strange budget game that I owned as a kid, and like many of those games, I had no idea how to play them! I remember blasting away in the game with no idea of what I had to achieve. It turns out it is simply that: blast everything until there are no more things to blast. Once all five levels are empty, the game is won. The graphics and game play are quite neat, but it's not very exciting and it's very short once you know what you have to do. I'm glad I've beaten this one as it was on my list of games I really wanted to complete - for the simple fact that I always wondered if there was a point to it all...

And that's it really...

...enter in your name...

...and you're done. The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used infinite lives cheats.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: On clearing the final level a page of text appears. The message reads 'CONGRATULATIONS. THE DEFENCE SYSTEM IS NOW CLEARED. YOUR ATTACK HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL. PLEASE ACCEPT A SMALL 10,000 POINT BONUS FOR YOUR TROUBLE.'

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Not much to say about this. Nice text design and short message but it's something that should have been much better. Very poor. 1/10.
  • Vinny: As I have mentioned before on the site, I'm a fan of Karl's very distinctive style of game, but this one seems to pass me by. The game play is a little monotonous, but the visual style of Karl's games is still in there.

With regards to the ending... there's nothing much to see or hear :( 1/10 from me too.
  • Andrew Fisher: That one toads the wet sprocket. You can't force me to play through to a terrible conclusion.
  • Andy Vaisey: A really attractive budget game, with bright colourful graphics. As Vinny said, a bit on the repetitive side but what do you want for a couple of quid? Well, a better ending than this for a start...
  • Brendan Phoenix: I'd rather lick a frog's back that view that ending again.

FINAL SAY: A standard shoot-em-up ending to this one.

G.E. RATING: 1 / 10
