Gremlin Graphics got this
game just right for me. It's one of my all time favourite platform games
and it's one that I return to time and time again. I remember spending hours
playing it so that I could see the ending, and at one
point a school friend and I had a challenge going as to
who could complete it first.
Finally, after playing the game to death, I got to the
end sequence. So was it worth all that lost youth? ...
Take a butchers...

Thing gets
transported to the main switch.

Thing
automatically pulls the switch and a deadly RAY appears!

The Goblin is none the wiser.

AAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

AAGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

"Hooray!"

YIPEEE! Game Completed : ) The End.
Thing on a
Spring is a fine little game ending and finishes off the
game as it started, in pure style. If you haven't ever
played the game then WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? If you have
and never saw the game ending, then now's you chance!
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I originally complete this game without the cheat - but
on this occasion, I cheated :)
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
Once Thing reaches the final room, it's a matter of
finding the correct teleporter that whizzes you over to
the final switch. When you get to the switch, Thing
automatically flips it and a large force-field appears
below the platform. The Evil Goblin is unaware of the
force-field and walks straight into the death trap. The
Goblin fades away and the ending message appears: "CONGRATULATIONS.
YOU HAVE KILLED THE EVIL GOBLIN AND SET FREE ALL THE
TOYS."

Vinny: Firstly, I'd like to say that this
game is MASSIVE! I really can't fathom how the
programmer, Jason Perkins, managed to cram
everything into 64kb! It truly is a game to marvel
over. Anyway, though the ending is quick, it really
did satisfy my craving for a game ending and left me
feeling triumphant in my quest.

Frank Gasking: I never fully got into the Thing
on a spring games, but always loved the main
character and did lots of cartoon sketches with him
in. The ending for the game is superb for the time,
and I think a very fitting ending too. Of course, I
can understand why Vinny loves this one so much due
to his childhood memories of it (it's the same with
the ending of Ghostbusters with me) They don't make
them like they used to...
<sigh>

Brendan Phoenix:
Think this was the 1st
one you completed wasn't it Vinny? Actually been
playing this on the DS recently - music slows down a
bit, but it is an ace game (although Thing Bounces
Back sucked) They could have easily cut to the
congratulations screen, so it was nice to see the
big evil Goblin sprite being zapped, followed by a
nice congratulations message. Wish they had a
separate piece of ending music, but seeing as the
main piece is so fantastic, I will let them off.
7/10 seems a fair enough mark to me.

Andrew Fisher: Nice ending, a game I've never
got very far in.
FINAL SAY:
A classic ending to a classic game :)
