Thing on a Spring is probably my number one fave C64 game of all time. So what happened to the sequel? It's a tad difficult to play and the controls are frustrating to say the least - not to mention that Thing looks completely different and resembles a circus clown. I purchased the original of this game when it first came back, and after playing it once, I would only ever load it up to play Ben's cool music :) The sad thing is, Jason Perkins is one of my all-time favourite Commodore 64 coders, and it was the influence of other members of the coding team that watered this game down.

So is the ending any good ...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Inge cracked the ending. I also cracked the ending with the following cheat:

  • Load the ending file and freeze it using an Action Replay Cart

  • Press 'M' for MONITOR

  • Type: G 08E7 (this uses the GO command and goes to mem location: $08E7, where the ending is situated).

  • The ending will start.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Nothing apart from an ending screen that says: "WELL DONE! FROM JASON AND MARK. YOU HAVE COMPLETED THING BOUNCES BACK." There is also a little ending ditty from Ben Daglish.

  • Vinny: Considering that Thing on a Spring was such a great game and had a fitting ending, this game just totally fails and lets the Gremlin Graphics team down. They could have used a better ending tune from Ben :(

Thinking about it, what made the Thing on a Spring ending so cool was they way you killed the evil boss and also the way he dies. Maybe we've missed a trick here and maybe we are missing part of the ending. I doubt we will ever find out due to the fact that the game is SO hard and unplayable.

FINAL SAY: A total letdown.
