TAI CHI TORTOISE

Good old Zeppelin games. You've gotta love 'em :)
They released some cool games in their day, and also
some real duds to balance it out. Tai Chi Tortoise is a
middle of the road platformer that just doesn't quite
make the grade (ZZAP 64 magazine only rated it 63%).
It's still fun to play, but in my eyes it's lacking
something that I just can't put my finger on it. AH! - I
know what it is... it's lacking a bloody good ending...

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
We both used a trainer version of the game that allowed
us to jump straight to the end.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
The game comes to a final end with the standard title
screen 'Tai Chi Tortoise' logo, along with the ending
text that reads: "NOT BAD GOING FOR A TORTOISE.
RATATOUI AND HIS VERMIN FRIENDS HAVE BEEN BLOWN TO
KINGDOM COME! TAI CHI TORTOISE CAN RETURN TO HIS
FAVOURITE LETTUCE PATCH KNOWING THE WORLD IS SAFE AGAIN!
OR IS IT!" This is accompanied by a very short
ditty.
COMMENTS:
- Vinny: I
actually enjoy playing this game, though it does lake a
little sustenance, which could also be said for the
ending - and some!
- Kungfufurby: So
this is my first game that I got through, and all I get
is one screen? Well, I'm OK with that, but remember that
there are a bunch of other C64 games that have one
screen endings... and the recycled Title Screen graphic
is a thumbs down with me. At least it's better than
Turbo the Tortoise, another games related to turtles.
Hmm... one screen... a recycled piece of graphic... I'd
give this a 2.5/10. The ending storyline nets 1 point (a
mere congratulatory screen would have made me put a 0.5
here), and the music boosts it up by 1 point. An extra
0.5 points will be added for the title screen graphic
being put there... but no more. That graphic is
recycled, so it doesn't deserve more than that. If it
were something unique for a graphic, I'd give it
something higher than this. This is boring and
generic... that's all I can say.
- Andy Vaisey:
The Rowland Brothers had a lot to answer for in the late
1990's. The release of their widely popular 'Creatures'
led to an explosion (in my eyes) of various games
'starring' different types of animal, with many
publishers seemingly jumping on the bandwagon and hoping
to soak up some of the Creatures popularity and success.
Unfortunately, in all respects, Tai Chi Tortoise fails
to live up to Creatures, particularly in the ending. Big
pantaloons I'm afraid...
- Brendan Phoenix:
Never even heard of this game! Doesn't look too
brilliant to be honest and the ending has those oh soooo
boring multi coloured letters. Yawn.
- Andrew Fisher:
I'd blame Sonic more than the Rowlands for the "animal"
explosion. Of course, there was also the old cartoon
Touche Turtle. Hmm, animal explosion. Sounds like a good
idea. *puts a pile of dynamite under Tai Chi Tortoise
and its terrible ending*
FINAL SAY: A slow paced ending - just like the
death of a tortoise!
