Back in 1985 my cousin Carmello owned this piece of cack, but fortunately I never got to see or play it - probably because he was too embarrassed to show it to me!

Twenty-eight years later Frank Gasking of GTW64 contacted me to find out if we could obtain the ending to this game that he used to play many moons ago. C64endings team member Neil Collins took up the challenge and completed the game for us, but unfortunately I was unable to view the ending file and so it was still wanted. Since then, I've spent some time (5 minutes!) hacking the ending, which really wasn't worth the effort...

As for the game itself... it's taken from a British children's television programme from the eighties. The game is a mish-mash of styles all rolled into a massive turd. It actually looks like the kind of BASIC game that C&VG magazine used to provide as a type-in! I did used to love watching the TV show with the title tune sung by Billy Connolly, but I doubt the ending to this game is going to be much cop...

Nearly there Gran...

Phew!

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I created a hack that allows you to press '1' to skip levels. The file is available via the download icon above-left.

For those of you who are budding hackers:

4840 JSR $8600
6120 JSR $8600
6E80 JSR $8600
77CA JSR $8600

8600 LDA #$7F
8602 STA $DC00
8605 LDA $DC01
8608 CMP #$FE
860A BNE $860F
860C JMP $7CB1
860F LDA $DC00
8612 RTS

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have completed Level 8, the ending screen appears, which is just the Super Gran logo flashing different colours and the words: "WELL DONE!".

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: What an absolute load of cack. But then again, I didn't expect much more. 0.5/10 from me.
  • Frank Gasking: The ending is terrible!.... just a repeat of the title screen with some flashing colours. I'm not surprised at all though considering its age. Wasn't really much love put into the game ... very industrial job done on it :-)
  • Andrew Fisher: One of the more unusual licenses Tynesoft did, it's not great as a game or a tie-in. And I wouldn't describe it as a super ending.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Awful game, really is - up there with the very worst on the C64 - not even a redeeming feature of a half decent ending.

FINAL SAY: WHET A LOD A SHIE!

G.E. RATING: 0.5 / 10
