Super cars is a game I used to play a lot on the Amiga ("me too!" - Vinny). I had long since sold my C64 when this game came out, so I had never played the 8-bit version. Ok, it doesn't look as good, but the game isn't too bad. At first I thought it was going to be terrible as the graphics are really basic. I'm sure they could have been a bit jazzier, as the cars look like they have been drawn by a child. The controls though are great. The cars handle well and the racing is good fun and quite a challenge. You need to beat all the courses within all the leagues to beat the game. You can upgrade your car using money that you gain from winning races. Overall it's a good race game which offers more than the average car game. I was pleasantly surprised.

Almost there...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used a cheat that allowed me to skip races and still finish in first place.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have beaten the final course in the highest division the game is won. The race results board is shown, with the words 'WELL DONE...! YOU HAVE COMPLETED SUPER-CARS', written at the bottom of the screen. The words 'GAME OVER' then rise from the ground below the results board. The game is beaten and it restarts.

  • Neil: A very simple ending. It's a good game, that lacks a decent finale. 2/10.
  • Vinny: My good friend and partner in crime, Frank Gasking and I always play this game whenever we get together at a retro gaming event. We usually opt for the Amiga version and spend a good bit of time and fun playing through the polished Amiga version. I've only really touched the surface with regards to the Commodore 64 version and so I think it's time for a revisit... or two!

As for the ending... It could have been sooooo much better. 2/10 from me too.
  • Andrew Fisher: I really liked the C64 conversion, I felt it did a good job.

But that's not a super ending - send it back to the garage for a respray.
  • Gaz Spence: A disappointing ending given the graphical scenes in the game like the shop. Speaking of which, did anyone fondle the shop assistant?
  • Brendan Phoenix: We all fondled the shop assistant!

Massive fan of this on the Amiga and Supercars 2 is one of those rare games where the second is better (much better in fact)

Ending is so so, shocked it has one to be honest.
  • Andy Vaisey: Not a bad game at all, marred by a poor ending. Shame.

FINAL SAY: Very poor. Where's the champagne? Where's the fireworks?

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
