As you probably know, I am a massive C64 game fan and I
have played almost every C64 game there is. Well ... erm
... that's not actually true. I am embarrassed to say
that I had never played Starquake until Gurt sent in the
game ending. Where have I been for the past 23
years?! This game is amazing. I have heard of it, but I
never bothered to play it until now :-)
Anyway, Gurt was kind
enough to complete the game so that we can all see the
ending ...
Gurt: I
went to all the effort of beating Starquake, in the full
knowledge that the ending sucked, having read that
little attachment that came with one of the issues of
Zzap! 64 about game endings and bluffing.

Don't ask me what's
going on here as I haven't got this far!

Flashing screen and erm
... stuff.

Funny little floating
things!

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?
Gurt:
Yes, I bloody well cheated! And it was still
hard, finding all the pieces of the core! It took me
forever to find that umbrella! It was hidden in that
almost square area down and right from the core! But at
least I feel satisfied, because I tried for years to
beat the game and never got more than maybe three core
parts, and this time I got lucky and got three in the
first ten minutes!
SO WHAT HAPPENS?
I'm not quite sure what happens, but it has something to
do with the Cores (I love Andrea). There's a bit of
flashing graphics and some floating sprites, and then
end final message reads, "THE CORES COMPLETE BUT HOW ARE
YOU GONNA GET HOME WHEN ONLY A STUPID LOONY WOULD WANDER
THIS FAR OUT IN THE GALAXY". Charming!
COMMENTS: I don't
think that Gurt was too impressed with the ending, but I
was. It is nice to see such an old game actually have
some memory specifically set out to present an ending.
It has a few sound effects, some animation, and a final
message.
FINAL SAY:
It's worth a look just to satisfy curiosity (",)
