Starforce Fighter by Mastertronic is a side scrolling shoot-em-up. It's not bad for a budget game I suppose, although it's not very original. It's quite similar to Delta, where you have to blast your way through each level to reach the next. Each level has different landscape detail and colour schemes although the enemies and attack patterns are quite similar.

The graphics and sound are ok and it plays quite well. It's just your average shoot-em-up for a couple of quid. Not bad really...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used an infinite lives cheat.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once all levels are beaten a large scrolling message of congratulations whizzes across the screen (similar to the ending of Uridium). Pressing the fire button takes you to a final page of text which reads 'CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE MADE IT HOME SAFELY AND YOUR PEOPLE ARE THROWING YOU A PARTY. JUST AS YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE SAFE YOU WERE SENT ON ANOTHER MISSION'. Pressing the fire button then sends you back to the start of level one.

  • Neil: Nice large scrolling text and final message - although it's a bit cruel. 4/10.
  • Vinny: I remember buying this back in the day and being quite excited that not only did I have another Mastertronic game for my ever-growing tape collection, but it also looked like a cool shoot-em-up. Unfortunately, for me, I wasn't impressed when I loaded it up. In fact, I don't think I've played this game since I first loaded it up back in 1987! I suppose you can call it a VERY poor man's Uridium... but very loosely!

And here's the thing... I was SO SURE that this game wouldn't have an ending, and so I didn't bother trying. It's great to see it has an ending, and it's actually a good one considering! 5/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: This one passed me by... Horizontally...

A quick blast reveals a very average shoot em up, and while the large scrolly message is nice it's not a great ending.

FINAL SAY: It's the old 'Well done, now do it again' ending...
