> SPY VS. SPY 3: ARTIC ANTICS by First Star Software

• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Spy vs. Spy III: Arctic Antics is the final game of the spy series by First Star Software. Graphically it's very much like the other two games but this time the scenario is an arctic wasteland where you battle against your opponent.

The game play is also very much as the previous games where you have to set traps to injure your opponent, but this time you have to find the various items that allow you to enter the hidden space rocket.

If you liked the first two games then you will also like this one as it is just more of the same with different graphics. It's a shame they didn't try to evolve the spy game series. It seems like they just wanted to cash in on a winning formula.

The winning spy takes a trip down below...

He opens up the hatch...

...pokes out his end...

...reveals his shaft...

And shoots his load all over the ice... The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I played it a few times on the hardest skill level until I obtained all three items and located the space rocket. No problem.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: The end sequence shows the victorious spy climbing down into a hatch in the ground before he blasts off up the screen inside the space rocket. The rocket has the words 'SPIES IN SPACE' written on the side of it.

  • Neil: It would have been nice to see more at the end of it being as it was the last in the series. It's actually not as good as the endings of the previous two games. 3/10.

  • Vinny: As I've mentioned in the previous two Spy vs. Spy games... I love them. All three of them are brilliant and great fun - especially when you are playing with two players. This follow-up is definitely the icing (no pun intended) on the cake. I wonder if SPIES IN SPACE was to be the next game in the series?

Anyway - a well animated ending and fits well in within the other two games in the trilogy. 5/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: I was slightly disappointed in the third game, it felt too similar to the second (Coconut Capers). But there's no doubt it was a fun and innovative series, and the ending animation here is quite nice.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Great games - I think there was an Xbox remake several years back (never played it though).
  • Gaz Spence: Maybe First Star were running out of ideas with the third instalment. Still, a good game in its own right and a decent animated conclusion.

FINAL SAY: It's just as you would expect this one to end.

G.E. RATING: 4 / 10
