Back in August 2014 I was asked by the Hokuto Force cracking team if I could scour the code for Spike's Peak and produce a few trainers that they could use in their next release. The only problem was, I'd never heard of this game and so I spent some time familiarising myself with it and its mechanics. It certainly was a challenge because it's a roughly coded game with all sorts of fangled coding techniques!

As for the game... it's very clucky to control, frustrating to play, looks old (it hasn't dated well), but all that aside, it's actually a challenging game... with an ending!

Spike is almost at the peak!

Phew!

Time for a rest.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Back in August 2014 I hacked the code for a Hokuto Force release, which also included the ending. You can download the full release from HERE.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you've got yourself passed the deadly clouds, you reach the peak. Spike plants his flag, has a rest and then makes his own way down.

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: Considering this game was made back in 1984, it's nice to see that it has an ending. 4/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: I'm more familiar with Larry Holland's work on PHM Pegasus and Strike Fleet, so this early game is an interesting one. For the time that is quite a good ending.
  • Brendan Phoenix: One thumb up for this one - I like it, basic but thought has been put into it.
  • Gaz Spence: Not bad for something that was found in Pompeii!

FINAL SAY: Cute enough for 1984!

G.E. RATING: 5 / 10
