Spelunker by Ariolasoft is an action game that has
you roaming caverns and collecting treasure in order to
reach the temple at the heart of the caves that holds
the hidden treasure. The graphics are poor, the sound is
poor and the control method is poor. That, however,
doesn't make it an awful game - just a frustrating one.
The caverns are large with many items to collect so
there's a lot to do. Jumping around and dodging ghosts
takes great skill and will take practice to do well
enough to get far in this game. Overall it's fun
exploring, but you die so often and have to repeat
sections over and over - making it all a bit boring. I
preferred playing Montezuma's Revenge - it looks and
plays far better and it's an overall better experience.
I'm sure Spelunker will appeal to a lot of gamers, as
it's quirky and has great depth - but sadly it wasn't
for me...

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I used cheats that gave me infinite lives, keys,
dynamite etc
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
At the end of the last level you see the temple.
Approaching the passage leading up to it causes the wall
to crumble and open a hidden pathway. The screen flashes
and a tune plays. You have finally made it to the end. A
message then appears, which reads: 'YOU ARE NOW ONE
OF THE SKILFUL AND THE BRAVE WHO HAVE REACHED THE HIDDEN
TREASURE'. The message flashes various colours and
pressing the fire button takes you to the high score
table.
