You may already know this, but I'm a big fan of the Hi-Tec releases and have enjoyed many an hour playing through the collection of fun and colourful games. Their output was mainly geared towards the license that they gained to produce games based on the many cartoon characters of Hanna-Barbera such as Hong Kong Phooey, Atom Ant, Yogi Bear and many more. But not all of their games made use of the HB license...

Space Rider is an arcade platform game that has you flying around on your jet pack collecting important and valuable minerals and bringing them back to your ship. It's a great budget exploration game with nice graphics and cool SID tunes.

I was introduced to Space Rider a few weeks before producing this page (Sept 2012) and it interested me because I could see the potential of creating one of my crazy hacks and adding some new features to the page. Once of these features allowed you to jump straight to the ending, which then lead me to adding it to C64endings...

All 99 minerals collected...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I built a crazy hack for this game that gives you an extra 35 in-game features, and one of them was skipping straight to the game ending. You can download the crazy hack from HERE.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have collected all the minerals, you return to your ship and the following ending message appears: "CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE COLLECTED ALL THE CRYSTALS AND RETURNED SAFELY. THE GAME IS NOW COMPLETE. BONUS SCORE 100000"

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: Obviously a VERY disappointing ending. The coder could have added a little more pizzazz and maybe a small end sequence involving the main sprite :( 0.5/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: The game itself reminds me of Northstar from Gremlin, which would have been cooler if your character could fly with a jetpack. But a very uninspired ending - why not show the spaceship taking off as a reward?

FINAL SAY: Booooooooooring!

G.E. RATING: 0.5 / 10
