> SON OF BLAGGER by Alligata Software

• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

I never really liked Son of Blagger, but my mate was a huge fan of this game. He used to play it most days, over and over. He could complete it with no trouble at all. He never let me have a go, so I just used to say it was crap to annoy him. I did start playing it years later, and found it to be a decent platform game. It's smooth and well programmed like most Crowther games. I also remember a map of the game being printed on the inner of the cover artwork. It's not a very big game, and not too difficult, so it's worth a play if you like this sort of thing.

The aim is to navigate the course, collecting keys and finding the exit.

The final exit...

What's going on here!

Ah! words...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Using a lot of save-states within the emulator.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you reach the final exit, the screen goes black and our hero walks across the screen with the words 'OK! NOW TRY THIS FOR SIZE !!' appearing behind him. The game then restarts.

  • Neil: I suppose it's not too bad. I'm glad something happened to be honest, as the original Blagger just loops back to the start. 3/10.
  • Vinny: I'm not really a fan of this style game - which is really the Monty Mole engine with different graphics, or vice-versa. I find both games a little drab and lacklustre, and they certainly don't stand the test of time. I do find Tony Crowther's games a bit hit-and-miss, and unfortunately, this one is a 'miss' for me.

Well blow me down... a Crowther game with an ending! Now that definitely deserves an extra point! 4/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: Actually it uses the game engine from Rocket Roger...

    I wasn't a fan of this one, and that's a lacklustre ending.
  • Inge Pedersen: I love these kind of games, but Son of Blagger is a bit on the dull side.

I remember playing Cracker's Revenge to death, and later discovered that it uses the graphics (and maybe the engine too) from SoB.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Blagger is still great I think and still worth a play every so often. This and Blagger goes to Hollywood never did it for me.

FINAL SAY: I've seen much worse. I've seen much better.

G.E. RATING: 3.5 / 10
