Okay - I'm going to be totally honest with you and say that I've never heard of this game and only really stumbled on it after installing the new version of Gamebase 64 onto my PC...

Solider of Light is a mish-mash of platforming action along with a space-ship shoot-em-up element. As far as I can work out, your mission is to destroy the enemy bases on three planets to complete the game. There isn't much else to the game and it can quickly become tedious to say the least. A very short game that I'm hoping was only ever released as a budget title because to me it feels as if the coder couldn't be bothered and just rushed through the process to get the game released. The only saving grace to this game is the music!

A lacklustre game and so I'm guessing a sub-standard ending...

You need to kill the massive PINK (!) guy.

Ah poo! And there's me thinking I completed the game!

Another bit of sub-standard shoot-em-up...

Phew! And now for the actual ending...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used a trained version that gave me infinite energy, and so I whizzed through the whole game in minutes :)

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: One you have destroyed the final enemy base and flown out of the planet's orbit, an ending message appears, which reads: "CONGRATULATIONS. MISSION COMPLETE." This is accompanied by a specific ending tune.

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: I was actually hoping that the game would redeem itself with a cool ending, but I got what I actually expected. A piece of text :( But then again, there is a specific game ending tune. 1.5/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: Having played the arcade game in MAME and real life, the conversion is lackluster and having a single text screen at the end is like switching off the light at the end of the tunnel...
  • Brendan Phoenix: The arcade version is called Xain'd Sleena, I play it once in a while on MAME.

The ending on the arcade original is much superior than this, little animated ending and an epilogue with ending piccy - I'm sure they could have squeezed the last bit in.

FINAL SAY: 'Solider of Shite' more like!

G.E. RATING: 1.5 / 10
