> SKATIN' USA by Atlantis Software

• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Having completed Superkid by Atlantis and seen the advert for Skatin' USA, I thought I'd give the game a bash...

Skatin' USA is definitely an improvement on Superkid. This time you control the kid on a skateboard and have to collect the cash scattered around each level, avoiding or shooting the villains with your slingshot. Every time you collect some cash, a letter of the words 'Skatin USA' is highlighted. Once you have highlighted it all, you have to make your way to the exit. It's quite a fast paced game, which reminds me a little of Ghostrider on the ZX Spectrum. There are six levels to complete - and it's against the clock so you need to whizz around as fast as possible.

Final level is complete.

Time for more points...

Ride 'em Cowboy!

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Using an lives cheat.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: On exiting the sixth level, you get a 'GREAT SKATING!' message. You then get a bonus round where you skate a half pipe against the clock to boost your final score. Once that is over you get a final congratulations message from the programmers, the Shaw brothers. The game then loops back to level one.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Nothing much to report here. I was hoping for an improvement on Superkid. 2/10.

  • Vinny: I've only played this game because I've been through the code and gathered cheats/features for a future crazy hack... but the time I spent playing the game was filled with boredom - hence me not creating a crazy hack straight away. I doubt I'll bother playing it again!

With regards to the ending... I didn't expect much at all. 2/10 from me too.
  • Andrew Fisher: Atlantis put the bin into bargain bin with some truly awful games.

This is one of them and the ending is about as radical as an unripe banana.

FINAL SAY: Very much like all the other Atlantis titles. I didn't expect too much.

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
