I was lucky enough to be one of the game testers for
this Jeff Minter tribute and so it was inevitable that I
was going to ensure that it had some kind of substantial
If you haven't played it
yet, Sheepoid is an updated remake of Jeff Minter's
original space shooter, Laser Zone, which was published
way back in 1983 by Llamasoft. You take control of two
manic sheep who have to protect their area and baby
sheep by annihilating the advancing enemy. Richard
Bayliss has injected a whole host of psychedelic Minter
visuals and audio, as well as a superb loading screen by
STE, which all come together to make a cracking little
But did Richard listen to
me when I asked for a cracking ending...
The field is empty...
Our hero is safe
...to roam the fields
in peace and harm...
# he was blind-ed
by the light...#
"RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!"
It's the Minter
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
Richard is a very clean coder and so it's easy to work
out what's going on. I simply hacked the ending ("I had
to as I was testing it!") by doing the following:
- Load and start
- Freeze the game with an Action Replay Cartridge
(or an equivalent)
- Go to MONITOR
- Type: "G 6519" which jumps the game to location
$6519 where the game ending is sitting :)
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
Once the final level is complete, the ending sequence
starts with an empty field. Along comes a spaceship and
deposits our hero onto the ground before it darts back
off into space. Our hero goes about his business until
he is set upon by a gang of camels (they've probably got
the 'ump!). A colourful end message appears, which
reads:"WELL DONE. THE SPACE GOAT HAS BEEN DEFEATED
AND YOU'RE BACK ON EARTH AGAIN. BUT AFTER THE EARTH
SHOOK, THE MUTANT CAMELS HAVE MADE A COMEBACK. OH DEAR!
:Oj". This is all accompanied by an ending tune.
