Here's a strange one... the team that produced this game also produced Taskforce. Do you notice anything strange about these two games both released in 1989 by Players? That's right - they're both Cybernoid rip-offs. Fair enough, I can understand releasing one game that plays similar to the original, but releasing two games in that same year, by the same team strikes me as being a little desperate. I'd love to find out that the story was behind the two releases...

To be fair, Shark is actually a nice arcade adventure shoot-em-up game (phew!). Almost identical game play to Cybernoid, Shark was certainly worth the few pounds Players charged for it. It's a nice little package, but is the ending any good?

The final boss is destroyed...

...and the exit is clear.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Neil used an infinite lives cheat.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once the final end of level alien is blasted to bits, a short message appears. It reads 'CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE SAVED THE UNDERWATER COMPLEX'. The game then ends.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: A short message is all you get. Don't bother. 1/10.

  • Vinny: It's with regret that I have to inform you that this game ending is a piece of shite :( 1/10 - and only for the tune!
  • Brendan Phoenix: I have just 'saved the underwater complex' and I get a little message! Pah!
  • Andrew Fisher: Less a shark, more a small fish in a big pond trying to copy what a bigger fish did... While I leave you with that tortured metaphor, the game leaves a bad taste in the mouth with that ending.
  • Andy Vaisey: Less 'Jaws', more minnow. And an ending in the same league as Jaws:The Revenge...
  • Gaz Spence: I've seen worse, given at least there is a short Martin Walker-esque tunnel to accompany the boring text message. I'd rate it a 2.5/10.

FINAL SAY: Yawn... another poor ending...
