Back in the seventies Scooby Doo was THE cartoon to watch. Summer holidays were filled with repeats of old Scooby Doo episodes that ran over and over again - but we lapped it up. We loved it. We loved it so much that we invented our own Scooby Doo game that a gang of us used to play - a kind of 'Who Dunnit?' murder, mystery game :)

And then came the eighties. And along with the eighties came the most obnoxious, annoying, idiotic cartoon character in the shape of Scooby Doo's nephew, Scrappy Doo! WTF! This guy was an absolute idiot and just spoilt the whole emphasis of the spooky, monster chasing, mystery cartoon that we all loved.

And so came the nineties and Hi-Tec Software published the Scooby Doo & Scrappy Doo game, which had you playing the role of the idiot nephew, Scrappy. In true Ash & Dave style, this game looks, feels and sounds good - though ZZAP!64 decided it only deserved an overall rating of 62% (REALLY?!?). I loved the game and still have a play now and again - but not because I love Scrappy Doo, but because I love platform games...

Here's the funny, animated scene in-between levels...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Like the absolute cheat that I am, I used a trained version that allowed me to jump straight to the end!

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once Scrappy has reached the exit on level 4, the ending screen appears, which is an image of Scooby, Shaggy and Scrappy along with the words: "CONGRATULATIONS!! The End."

  • Vinny: I'm guessing that Ash & Dave ran out of space and so they couldn't produce a quality ending. I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately what they did produced was a sub-standard ending with nothing more than an image - not even an ending tune :( Note: this is almost identical to the ending to Augie Doggie & Doggie Daddy!
  • Andy Vaisey: Well, I'd like to say at least it's a nice piccie, but Shaggy's face looks like a bad Picasso, Scooby looks like he has a great big pink bird shit on his head and that smug little tit in the background is enough to annoy anyway regardless of how he is drawn.

Think I would have preferred a better ending and sacrificed the in-between level animations.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Scooby Poo!
  • Andrew Fisher: Scrappy Doo, the Jar Jar Binks of the 1980s...

Like a lot of Hi-Tec's licenses, a good effort with some nice graphics but lacking in depth. Even puppy power can't save the ending from being disappointing...

FINAL SAY: Scrappy Dappy POO!
