> ROADBURNER by Players Premier

• Completed & Reviewed by Vinny Mainolfi

Now here's an annoyingly difficult game that I only really found as I was going through the games listed on Gamebase 64 (the offline version). It seemed to be calling out to me... "Vinny. Come Vinny. Come play me"! I was pulled in like the complete mug that I am because as tempting as it appeared to me, it ended up being frustrating, annoying, crazy-making and downright disastrous!

Don't get me wrong - Roadburner is quite a well presented budget title, and the music by Sonic Graffiti is thumping throughout.  It's just that I played the game using cheats and still it was incredibly difficult to get anywhere in the game! I was pulling me hair out! You can imagine how it would have been if I hadn't had the cheats!

Anyway - if you play Roadburner I'm sure you'll be thinking the same as me: this is a mix between Spy Hunter, BMX Racers and a sideways scroller SEUCK game - which isn't a bad thing. Passed the difficulty side of things it's a good game...

The final stage is complete...

...and our hero passes the final road block.

(the older retro gamers will get that reference
- just remember, he's getting OUT of the car)

Run for it!

The End. (Anyone recognise the font?)

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used a trained version by FUSION that gave me infinite bundles of joy!

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have completed the final stage, you whiz passed the final roadblock and come to a skidding halt. You climb out of the car and make a run for it just as it explodes! The ending message reads: "WELL DONE."

  • Vinny: I was actually quite chuffed to see that there was a small ending sequence. It gave me a feeling of achievement and satisfaction. 4/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: Not heard of that game before, will check out. Quite a simple ending, but not bad for a budget game.

  • Andy Vaisey: Roadburner? Eh? Never heard of it...

However, nice to see an ending in a cheapo budget game, even if it is quite mediocre.

FINAL SAY: The blooming car exploded!

G.E. RATING: 4 / 10
