Okay - so to start with, I'm not really a fan of
these types of Double Dragon, walk around and beat-up
everything kind of games and so it's inevitable that
this game isn't really for me. But then - I read the
ZZAP!64 review and thought "maybe I'd better give this
another go". So after a few minutes of bashing a few
baddies, I came to the conclusion that this game is a
load of cack and wonder how on earth ZZAP!64 gave this
an overall score of 90%! I wonder if the
ending is any cop...

You have to polish of
the final Red Aliens.

The last Alien has
been terminated...

...and the escape pod
appears!

Our hero heads for
safety...

...and teleports out
of the mayhem.

Gone!

WTF! The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
It was so long ago that I can't remember, but it looks
like I cheated his way to the final battle using infinite
lives (Nostalgia trainer version). The download of the ending requires you to finish
off the last Red Alien.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
Once you have punched the hell out of the Red Aliens,
our hero pauses for a second whilst an escape pod
appears. Our hero enters the pod and makes his way to
freedom. The final ending message appears, which reads:
"WOW! WHAT A HERO YOU ARE. UNFORTUNATELY YOUR EFFORTS
WERE IN VAIN AS YOUR GIRLFRIEND HAS APPARENTLY RECUED
HERSELF AND COME TO COLLECT YOU WITH A TIME WARP
MACHINE. WELL IT WAS GOOD FUN, WASN'T IT?" This is
accompanied by a Jonathan Dunn ending ditty.
-
Vinny:
So it wasn't an escape pod after all! It was our
hero being rescued by his blooming girlfriend! What
a load of pants. Still - it's an okay ending with
some animation, a small epilogue and a very short
ending ditty.

Andrew Fisher:
For me, this got high scores because of the hype
(being the third game in the Renegade series) and
the graphics (the overlays work really well). I'm
not a fan though, as it's too repetitive.
As for the ending, it's mixed feelings from me -
nice animation and music, but the text screen
explaining it is rather naff. 5/10.
-
Brendan Phoenix:
Agree, the text screen is a but rubbish - better
ending than most though.
Very disappointing game, Target Renegade was great
(with a pretty ok ending as well) pity the series
finished on a low point.

Frank Gasking:
What a shocking piece of crap!... I remember very
well getting it on the Hit Squad release and being
very disappointed with it (as I brought Target
Renegade and loved it). Felt very glitchy and the
overlays kept losing sync with the multicolour
sprites (which actually you can see in the ending).
Typical ending from Zach though, a little bit of
taunting from the guy :-)

Matt Rogers:
...meh

Average all round from me. Nice sprites, but
everything else just average, average, average...
