• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Punch and Judy by Alternative is a flick screen adventure starring the seaside puppet show characters. I will admit that when I loaded this one up I didn't have much hope for it having seen the screenshots. To my surprise, it wasn't that bad a game...

The aim of the game is to guide Punch around the town finding pieces of the puppet show tent. Once all pieces are returned and assembled at the beach, he must round up all the characters for the show. Finally he has to put on a successful show to win the game. The game play is simple and fun once you know your way around and what to do. You need to avoid the policeman and the crocodile or you will lose energy and time. Time is indicated by the incoming tide, which you need to beat in order to put on the show.

It's a silly little game but it's original and easy to play. I've played a lot worse that this over the last few months. Give it a go.

The tent is complete!

Time to start the show...

Yaaaaay!

The show is complete.

Time to go home...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I played through the game and saved my position as I completed sections of it.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have put on the show successfully (clobbered all of the cast and avoided the policeman), the game is beaten. A page of text is shown which reads 'CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE SHOW AND THE AUDIENCE WERE THRILLED. YOU TRULY ARE A PUPPET WONDER. PUNCH AND JUDY WAS BROUGHT TO YOU BY CLOCKWISE SOFTWARE. SPECIAL THANKS TO KEITH DEN. HI TO DEAN, CHUCH, CRAIG, ALI, WAYNE AND EVERYONE WHO KNOWS ME'.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: The ending itself is very boring but there are a couple of sub-endings before that, so it isn't so bad. Nice to play an original little budget game for a change. 2/10.

  • Vinny: Even though I've owned Punch and Judy for ever more, I've never bothered playing it as I was also one of those people who was put off by the naff screenshots, but I think I'll give it a go now I've seen Neil's comments.

As for the ending... it's simple enough and does the job - though I was expecting a lot more. 2/10 from me too.
  • Andy Vaisey: Wow, nasty graphics in this game. 1989 indeed? Looks more like 1985/6.

Disappointing ending - makes you think you're going to get more than you actually do.

That's not the way to do it...
  • Andrew Fisher: Not the greatest budget game ever, and a very average ending. That's not the way to do it.

FINAL SAY: Not a great ending, but it was a fun game.

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
