I can't really say that I am at all impressed with this game. ZZAP!64 magazine gave it a score of 46% back in 1988, and we are quite happy to match that overall score. The game really is non-descript and lacks so many elements that could have made it a great game. To be honest - I think I only got to play it thanks (or no thanks!) to it appearing on a magazine covertape. Oh well - poor game, poor ending?

And so the game comes to an end...

...mission complete. The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Brendan is 100% sure, but he thinks he used a cheat to complete the game. And rightly so :)

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: The car slows down and then the screen displays the words: "CONGRATULATIONS. MISSION COMPLETE." This is accompanied by a very short Mark Cooksey musical ditty that sounds very much like the beginning of the main tune in Ghost & Goblins!

  • Brendan: Looking at that ending, it really is poor. Not like the excellent ending Turbo Charge had, which was a similar sort of game (from memory) Then again, Elite, unlike System 3, rarely had a decent ending to a game - this is no exception. It's not like you can blame the original arcade version, like Commando, Ghosts n Goblins and their other ports as this is an original game. This is when Elite were sadly on the slide, though respect to them as they are still going ( with same logo - nice to see ) as a publisher for mobile phone games. Their website even has a look back at their classics! http://www.elite-systems.co.uk/elite/

  • Vinny: What was it with Elite that they just couldn't manage to produce a good game ending? Maybe it WAS the fact that they mainly produced arcade conversions and so to remain true to the actual arcade game, they steered clear of endings. It's a shame this one is lacklustre and non-descript :(

  • Andrew Fisher: I got this on the Thrill Time compilation and quite enjoyed it, probably more than I thought I would. It's a bit more tactical than Roadblasters but has its flaws. It was still tough, and I doubt I would have persevered to get that ending. Really poor, surely there could have been a simple animation like the car driving off into the sunset?

FINAL SAY: Poor show and definitely NOT Elite.
