Okay - so this one's a bit of a no brainer when it comes to describing what kind of game it is: you know Operation Wolf? Well it's like that! As with Operation Wolf, I find this a tediously boring game and there's really nothing in there to keep me coming back for another go. I can appreciate the graphics and programming, but when it comes down to it, I just don't like this type of game...

Saying that - ZZAP!64 magazine LOVED it and gave it an overall score of 92%. There's no justice in this world...

Yaaaay :-)

Is that it?!

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Brendan cheated! However, the final level he had to kill the terrorist holding the pilot - infinite energy would not work (neither would the level skip).

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have killed the last man standing, you get an ending message that reads: "MISSION COMPLETED! YOUR OPERATION WAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED. NOW, YOU CAN GO ON R&R. NOBODY KNOWS WHEN ORDERS FOR YOUR NEXT MISSION WILL BE GIVEN." Which actually translates to: we don't know if this game is going to make us any money and so we're not going to speculate if there will/will not be a sequel ;-)

  • Brendan: The ending to Op Thunderbolt is ok on the arcade. Shows the plane flying away and a cheering public awaiting you. Surely one status pic could have been on there??? For me, the ending doesn't warrant more than 1/10.
  • Vinny: So as well as being a very boring game, it's also a very boring and lacklustre ending!! Definitely on 1/10. Next!
  • Gaz Spence: There's a bit to the story on why Zzap! rated the game highly. I think in later issues, they distanced themselves from that by saying they had played a pre-release game. Check out the GTW entry for more info http://www.gtw64.co.uk/Pages/o/Review_Operation
  • Andrew Fisher: The review did hype the game, I've not played it much but it isn't as good as Op Wolf despite the improved graphics. Since the ending came from the arcade game, it was bound to be poor.
  • Andy Vaisey: I thought the C64 version of Op Wolf was awesome. Even better than the arcade in fact! No 10p pieces involved!

Op Thunderbolt is awesomely bad. Avoid.
  • Romppainen: In my eyes there ain't much to appreciate in this one, the invisible crosshair alone would've been enough for me to turn my back to it (first I thought my copy was bugged!) but seeing how truncated the C64 version was in all the other aspects made me almost sob - I never reached the ending simply because I couldn't care less about playing that far.
