I was, and still am, a massive Mastertronic fan,
spending all of my pocket money on the latest budget
releases. Ninja was one of those games that I purchased
even though the ZZAP64! review game it 25% (heh heh). To
be honest, the game is crap, but it seemed to keep me
quiet for sometime - at least until the next
Mastertronic title was released. David Craddock also
spent some time playing this game and decided to play it
through to the end for us...

Entering the final
screen ...

... The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?
David finished this game using cheats (of
course!) but he did complete it without cheats when he
originally owned it
back in the day. He remembers thinking how ridiculously easy it
was (not to mention crap!).
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
When you walk onto the final screen (Torii in the
sea), the screen border flashes different colours and
the words, "WINNER!!!" appear at the foot of the screen.
COMMENTS:
- Vinny:
Crap - no
music, no animation, no story ending ... NOTHING.
-
ZZAP!64's Julian Rignall (Nov'86):
Not another Ninja game? Yes, I'm afraid it is, and
it's not very good at that. The game is ridiculously
easy to complete - falling off my chair is more
difficult.

Andrew Fisher:
Created in the US by Sculptured Software, who would
go on to be most famous for their console versions
of Mortal Kombat... this in comparison is a very
poor budget game with a terrible ending. Ancient
Chinese wisdom say, Vinny should not have wasted
money on it ;)
-
Kungfufurby:
Ah, Sculptured Software. Yes they were known for
Mortal Kombat (I actually perfected the SPC sets for
the SNES versions of Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat
2)... but they were also known for two of the
RayaSystem "Health Hero" games! They would be
Captain Novolin and Rex Ronan: Experimental Surgeon.
What type of ending is this? These type of endings
prove that if people don't want to code a unique
screen for an ending, then they can just simply
replace a piece of text with a random victory
message... but it makes for a horrible ending.

Matthew Rogers:
Ah, Ninja! This review from the GB site always makes
me chuckle ->

Gaz Spence:
A US import we could have done without, like
Starbucks, and the ending sucks like one of their
Frappuccinos®.
-
Brendan Phoenix:
Terrible - should be minus points for that terrible
flashing screen effect.
-
Andy Vaisey:
I wish I could have applied some kind of Ninja death
grip to the programmer...
FINAL SAY:
Poor show Mastertronic
:-(
