Mr. Wino by Hewson is a peculiar little platform game. I can't think of another game where you play a bulbous nosed alcoholic...

Your mission is to collect as much booze as possible and make it to the exit. This involves avoiding most things that move, jumping across platforms, and climbing ladders. It's a simple game which is easy to control and fun to play. The graphics are bright, chunky and very colourful - very much like an Amstrad CPC464 game. It's not going to hurt your head to play this one (unless you drink as much as Mr. Wino as you play), so it's worth playing if you like simple platform games.

The End!

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I guided Mr. Wino around all the levels and grabbed as much grog as I could.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you take the final exit, a short ending scene kicks in. The word 'CONGRATULATIONS' is shown in various colours on the screen while a line of Mr. Winos bounce up and down below it on a steel girder. Bottles of booze flash all around the edge of the screen while a tune plays.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Just like the game, the ending is colourful and fun. A decent enough ending to this one. 3/10.

  • Vinny: I rather enjoyed seeing this ending. It suits the game and is a nice little closing - but there are missing elements that could have made it so much better.

    On a side note... I didn't actually play the ending. Instead, I hacked it! If you fancy hacking it yourself, follow these instructions: First start the game and then either:

    • reset the C64 and then type 'SYS 51968' or;

    • freeze using an Action Replay Cartridge (ALT+F) and go to the monitor and type: 'G CB00' (which goes to location $CB00) or;

    • if you're using VICE, got to the monitor (ALT+M) and type: 'GOTO CB00' (which goes to location $CB00).

  • Andrew Fisher: As for the game, never played it after a bad ZZAP! review (I think I've said that before on here!) but it's not a bad little ending for an average little game.

  • Gaz Spence: The game is pretty average - a pedestrian platformer but with a couple of humorous touches. The ending is simple but effective.

  • Brendan Phoenix: A half decent ending, so it makes sense that Hewson had nothing to do with it!

FINAL SAY: He he. Silly little ending that's not too bad.

G.E. RATING: 4 / 10
