To be TOTALLY honest with you, I had never heard of this game until I was going through some other stuff in GAMEBASE 64! The loading screen certainly looks nice and so of the in-game graphics look VERY impressive. So does the game ending follow suit? ...

COOL! ... your ship returns to the mother ship ...

... which then makes a hasty retreat into outer space ...

There she goes ... WHOOOOO ...

... OOOOOOSSHHHHH!

Everything goes silent and the planet fades into the darkness.

Suddenly ... KABOOOOOOOOOOOOO ...

... OOOOOOOOOOMMM! The planet has been destroyed and your
mission is complete (",).

THE END!

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I cheated!

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Well, as you can probably make out from the screens above, your ship returns to the mother ship which then makes a hasty retreat into outer space. As it leaves, the planet explodes which is followed by a congratulations screen that reads, "CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE DEFEATED THE DEFENCES OF DRACONIA. TRY AGAIN BUT THEY WILL BE READY FOR YOU THIS TIME". The whole ending is accompanied by sound effect and some sonix from David Whittaker (",).

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: This is a nice ending which is worth a little look. Its quite quick, so don't blink for too long.

  • Brendan Phoenix: Short but sweet - great big mothership looks ace. Animated outro's always show that little extra bit of effort and I applaud that. 7/10.

  • Andy Vaisey: I liked the Amiga version of this game by Dave 'Blood Money' Jones. Nothing fancy or complicated, but a straight forward blast with decent GFX.

Unfortunately, the C64 conversion left me a little cold. Bland and boring, with the GFX sheen lost through poor colour choice. The ending shows that at least some effort has been made and top marks for the cracking mothership which survives intact from the Amiga incarnation. But having said that, it's yet another, 'something blows up at the end of the game' whether it be a giant ship, planet, space station, galaxy or whatever. Unimaginative, but 6/10 for providing some closure.

FINAL SAY: Go on! You know you wanna see it (",)

G.E. RATING: 8 / 10
