> MEGA MOLECULES by Paul Kubiszyn (XL.C.US)

• Completed & Reviewed by Vinny Mainolfi

Mega Molecules was originally released on a Commodore Scene magazine coverdisk as an 'un-finished' game. The strange thing is, it's actually a full and complete game, which Paul Kubiszyn admits to in the opening credits. Saying that, the game does lack some polish and could have done with a few more elements.

As for the game itself - it's a poor man's Crazy Comets. Don't get me wrong: I like Paul's games and always classed him as a great up and coming C64 programmer with MASSIVE potential (check out the Amorphous ending); but I always thought that this game was lacking that Kubiszyn sparkle, and could have done with a little more thought before pushing it out. So please keep that in mind when viewing the following ending...

The End. Phew!

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: To be honest with you, I got a little bored and so I used a trained version that allowed me to skip the levels :)

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Erm... Nothing much. A repeat of the title screen (bouncing balls on a red background) and some ending text (see above screenshot).

  • Vinny: It chokes me to say this, but Paul didn't really do himself any favours with this game and the ending; though he did admit to it being cack (check out the ending text). Thing was - he knew it was cack but did nothing about it.

The good news is that, from this point onwards, Paul got better at producing games
and did himself proud on future C64 releases - no more "sorry about the crappy end sequence".

FINAL SAY: It hurts to do this, but it's a low scorer...
