> LUNAR BLITZ by T.M.R./Cosine

• Completed & Reviewed by Vinny Mainolfi

Jason Kelk of Cosine really does love his shoot-em-ups :) He has created a plethora of weapon wielding spaceship shooters that show off his skills and love for this genre.

Lunar Blitz is one of Jason's earlier efforts that takes on a similar form to the Blitz style games where your ship descends onto a planet and your job is to destroy the city below before you land on top of it - obviously killing you. Being one of Jason's earlier efforts, it obviously lacks his current abilities to produce a top-notch game. But saying that, it's a clean and fun little shooter that highlights Jason's earlier programming abilities...

Ship coming in to land.

Give us a wave :)

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Oh I'm such a cheat! I hacked the ending in the following way:

  • Load the game and freeze it using an Action Replay Cart

  • Press 'M' for MONITOR

  • Type: G 0AEC (this uses the GO command and goes to mem location: $0AEC, where the ending is situated).

  • The ending will start.

  • Alternatively - you can amend location $0ADC from #$31 to #$00 and then you only have to play one level to see the ending.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: You get to see your ship successfully land on a flat piece of dirt and then the pilot appears waving his hands in delight. An ending message then appears that reads: "WELL DONE! YOU HAVE COMPLETE ALL 50 LEVELS OF LUNAR BLITZ. WHAT A HERO!!" This is accompanied by the standard title tune - which is cool :-)

  • Vinny: It's definitely not going to win any awards and was one of Jason's early creations and so I'll forgive him for the limited and basic ending. Saying that - it's still a nice little ending for this type of game. Cracking title tune.

  • Frank Gasking: I remember Jason did this for Issue One of Commodore Zone and it was mostly for his mum who used to love playing New York Blitz on the VIC-20, but when the VIC-20 broke - she had no version of it to play, so Jason made Lunar Blitz on the C64 to fill the void. Funnily enough, later on he ports it back to the VIC-20 :-)

FINAL SAY: Definitely deserves a 4/10 for effort ;)

G.E. RATING: 4 / 10
