Unfortunately, when this TV programme appeared way back in 1986, I was spending most of my time travelling backwards and forwards to a college computer course, which meant I missed most of the series. I have only really seen it via repeats and small sections of it on YouTube, and I must say that I found it very entertaining to watch - full of atmosphere. The computer game seems to lack that atmosphere, but it does try very hard to recreate it.

Anyway, enough reminiscing... here's the ending courtesy of Inge Pedersen...

The final task (PRESS RETURN)

The screen goes all flishy-flashy!

The final page, turns..

...to reveal the ending message.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I'm sure Inge hacked this one.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have completed the final task of throwing the fat, the screen flashes all different colours, dissolves, and then the page turns for the final time to reveal the ending message: "CONGRATULATIONS. YOU HAVE EARNED YOUR SPURS AS A KNIGHT... MY DUNGEONS HUNGER FOR YOU STILL..." The bearded old fella then appears and says: "HA. YOU HAVE BEATEN  THE DUNGEONS OF DECEIT..."

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: I'm not too sure what to say about this ending... I had high hopes for this ending and I really expected something atmospheric. Unfortunately, it only seems to be some extra text and a flishy-flashy screen. Very disappointing.

  • Andy Vaisey: I think there is a real nice idea trying to get out in this ending. Actually, I think the ending is OK(ish), just a little poorly executed. If it was a bit slower, maybe a short ditty or something then it would be entirely satisfactory.

  • Andrew Fisher: I was a big fan of Knightmare, even applied to go on it with some friends (but was never accepted, bah!)

The game is not bad, there are some good ideas in there, just not great in terms of execution. (I do love the candle effect). That applies to the ending too - could have been a lot better.

FINAL SAY: Lacking soooo much atmosphere :(

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
