Have you ever had that feeling when you see a game and think "wow! that looks really cool!", and then you spend a few minutes playing it and find out that it's far too difficult to play. It drives me nuts when that happens. It happened when I first played Cauldron 2, and it also happened when I played this game...

Kinetik by Firebird is a multi-screen platform game that has some lovely hires graphics, but unfortunately the positives stop there. As well as having very minimal in-game sound, the game is far too difficult and so it makes it easy to just give up. Fortunately, this game does become playable with cheats...

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Brendan only used save states to get through this one!!

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: You land your craft in the hand of some big Buddha like statue and get an ending message saying: 'YES, THIS IS THE SOLUTION! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU FROM JASDAN JOERGES."


  • Brendan: Really took me a while this game, think of Wizball controls, but they never get better! Toughie, but enjoyable.

    The trainer version crashes a few screens in, so had a go with just my save states handy.

    The object is to collect 3 letters, P, A and X - what I didn't know is that you have to collect them in a certain order. Very annoying. What makes it worse is that some of the bad guys take your letters! Grrrr

    Anyway, considering how rock hard this game, the ending is a cop out. 1.5/10.
  • Andy Vaisey: Yes, I'm having that feeling at the moment... I'm trying to play Contra:Hard Corps on the Megadrive. Difficult isn't the word!

    However, at least Contra is a very good looking and playable game, unlike this piece of hires rubbish from Firebird. I would certainly have been disappointed to see that ending had I played it to completion. Which I didn't. So that's ok...
  • Andrew Fisher: The word Kinetik makes it sound dynamic and exciting. A few minutes play proves otherwise, and the ending lacks any sort of movement.
  • Gaz Spence: I actually like the hi-res graphics and, of course, the great music but the game is way too difficult. The ending doesn't deserve comment.

FINAL SAY: Too blooming hard! (oo-er, missus).
