Killed Until Dead is a murder mystery game by Accolade that has you playing the part of a detective who has to work out who the murderer is, before they carry out their dastardly deed. It's against the clock, so you have to work fast in gathering information - which involves studying surveillance tapes, conducting interviews and collecting evidence. It's all menu driven with neat, clean graphics. There are quite a few mysteries to solve, but all follow the same formula. I never really gave this game a go back in the day, and to be honest I don't think I've missed much. It's fun catching your first killer, but there's little reason to go back to this one as there is very little variety between cases. I was never a fan of Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot either...

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I found some solutions online and followed those. Once you know who did it, you can accuse them immediately and win the game. Saving a lot of time and effort !

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: If your suspicions are correct then each case ends with your detailed accusation and then confirmation of your success. The guilty person is shown in the corner of the screen as you speak to them on the telephone. They are shown in an animated state of panic, while some text below it conveys their emotion. In the final case the murderer says 'I've been found out! But you'll never take me alive!'. Then follows a computer screen which has a message on it which reads 'CONGRATULATIONS! WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW THE MYSTERY?'. You can then choose to return to the main menu or view two pages of text which give a detailed breakdown of the murderer's cunning plan. After this you return to the title screen. 


  • Neil: You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to work out that this ending is terrible. Not impressed. Just some text really. Very dull. I'm glad this mystery is over. 2/10.
  • Vinny: I remember seeing the graphics to this game back in 1986 and thinking that it looked spectacular, but never buying it because it wasn't really my thing - which is strange because I'm a massive Sherlock Holmes fan!

    As for the ending... is that it! All those lovely graphics to hand and it's a text based ending! RUBBISH! TOTAL RUBBISH. 1.5/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: All the clues point to a fun game, although it is hampered by disk access times. And putting the ending under the microscope reveals it could have done with a bit more effort.
  • Andy Vaisey: Oh the irony of a graphical adventure having a purely text based ending. I'd give it a ZERO out of spite.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Agreed - what a big fat let down. I remember seeing the graphics as well and thinking 'wow'

    To have a text based ending is really lame and a huge let down.
  • Gaz Spence: What surprises me most is that if you read up on who did it and accuse them straight away the game goes to the end. Methinks this is slightly flawed - compare with the Detective Game which only allowed you to make the accusation once all the evidence was in place - and you have to think the game's engine is overly simplistic. Anyway, the text end is a real cop out and tacked one with no thought or style. 1.5 out of 10 for me.
