• Completed & Reviewed by Vinny Mainolfi

A few months back I spent some time going through the Gamebase 64 database and looking at games I could potentially crazy hack. I was focussed on platform games and ones that needed something a little extra added to them. That's when I stumbled on Jungle Drums by Eurogold...

A basic, sluggish platform game that has you running around a sub-standard screen collecting objects to progress to later levels. This game is a bit out of time because even though it was released in 1987, you'd really expect this kind of 'quality' to be from around 1983-84! It lacks speed and quality... and it's very frustrating to play - hence me looking for trainers!

The final level comes to a close.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I ripped the code to pieces and jumped to the game ending with the following:

  • LDA #$13
  • STA $10C0
  • JMP $8200

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once the final level is complete, the game ending screen appears, which is full of flashing text and reads: "CONGRATULATIONS... YOU HAVE SURVIVED THE PERILS OF THE JUNGLE AND THE TEMPLE. YOU BEAT THE WARRIOR SKELETON AND SO YOU CAN KEEP THE GOLD YOU COLLECTED."

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: Looking at the game itself, I wasn't really expecting much with regards to the ending. It was obvious that it wasn't going to be something outstanding. 2/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: Maybe this was the coder's first attempt, or something that took a while to find a publisher?
Whatever the reason it is very limited and outdated for 1987, and seems even more quaint now. A basic colour moving routine hardly spices up the ending either.
  • Andy Vaisey: Dated looking/sounding for 1987, but Andrew's suggestion above about the release sounds feasible.

Anyway, move right along to the next game/ending because there is nothing interesting to see here...

FINAL SAY: It's just a bunch of over-ripened bananas!

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
