From where I'm sitting, Commodore 64 games by Konami seem to be a real hit and miss affair... you've got your faultless Hypersports (90% - ZZAP!64), and on the flip side you've got the horrendous Jail Break (30% - ZZAP! 64) - now there's a piece of gaming cack if ever there was one! And what about the masterpiece that is Green Beret (93% - ZZAP! 64), and on the other side of the fence, the abysmal WEC Le Man (40% - ZZAP! 64). So you see, Konami games are never a guarantee for Commodore 64 gaming perfection...

And then there's Jackal... where does that fit in? I'll tell you: it fits in to the pile marked 'REJECTS'! This game is a failed attempt at bringing a great arcade game to our beloved home computer. The game play is flat, and the movement is amateurish to say the least. This really is a let down for the Commodore 64 community.

I'm guessing that the ending is going to be cack too...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: Brendan played through using infinite lives.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: You see the outpost blowing up and then the game ending message appears, which reads: "OUTPOST DESTROYED MISSION COMPLETE..."

  • Brendan: Love the arcade game - even in single player mode it's a great blast.

Some of these Konami games were really poor, Iron Horse was another (although I was no fan of the arcade game either)

Only redeeming feature of the ending is the little ditty and the fact the arcade original does not have any major differences with it's own ending.
  • Vinny: I don't like this game at all. To me, it feels like a SEUCK game that was released at full price! 2/10 from me, but only for the Mark Cooksey ending tune.
  • Andrew Fisher: Have to agree, several of the Konami conversions were great and the rest were awful.

Never really got into Jackal, very bad ending even with a bit of music over it.
  • Gaz Spence: The thing I don't understand is that the 'US' version mentions the UK software house Imagine but the 'UK' version just mentions Konami. Are we sure we haven't got the games the wrong way around?
  • Andy Vaisey: Nasty all round.

FINAL SAY: Straight onto the 'REJECTS' pile...

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
