> INNER SPACE by CRL

• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Inner Space is quite a decent shoot-em-up by CRL that is very similar to Delta (Thalamus). There are nine tough levels to beat and you can collect power-ups on your way to aid you in your fight against the oncoming waves of aliens.

The sound and graphics are pretty good with decent parallax scrolling.

Level 6 is finally complete!

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: With infinite lives and energy cheat.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: At the end of level nine you have to battle some kind of squid beast. He is pretty tough, but does die eventually after a few hundred(!) shots. Once he explodes, the level ends and you are shown a congratulations screen with a few animated sprites moving around while a victory tune plays. The text explains how our hero Harry has at last found peace away from his war stricken world and now lives north of Reading.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: A humorous end to a half decent shoot-em-up. It's not very exciting though. 3/10.

  • Vinny: It's a decent enough game with a decent enough ending. The ending music is very jolly and the epilogue and effect finish it off nicely. 5/10 from me.
  • Gaz Spence: Very much a derivative of Delta, right down to the power up system. The ending is certainly one of the better ones out there from CRL although that isn't saying much.

Regarding the movie Inner Space, I remember seeing it at the cinema. A good blast as a kid and watching it a few years ago there were still parts that I found pretty funny.
  • Andy Vaisey: CRL ALERT, CRL ALERT!

I think I've said before, anything (other than a few adventures) on the C64 by CRL is generally pretty poor and here we have a poor shooter that is a mish-mash of various better shooters. I mean, with a stunning dose of no originality, even the loading screen ship has more than a passing resemblance to a Battlestar Galactica Viper...

And continuing the theme, was a poor ending.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Rather see Meg Ryan in an ending pic!!! However by CRL standards this is GM worthy!

FINAL SAY: It's an ending - but not a great one.

G.E. RATING: 4 / 10
