HOWARD THE DUCK
by Activision

• Completed
& Reviewed by Neil Collins
Howard the Duck is a poor game. I don't know if any
of you guys saw the film years ago, which is just as
bad. It's quite appropriate then that this game sucks.
The game is split into 3 levels. The first being based
on an island where you have to find your backpack and
then make your way to the volcano. The second level puts
you in control of a microlite aircraft where you have to
fly over the volcano and parachute out. Finally inside
the volcano you have to destroy the evil chap that has
captured your two mates and then throw the volcano power
switch at the end. It all sounds much better than it
actually is.

Howard has completed
his mission...

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I used an infinite energy and time cheat. I played this
years ago and got very frustrated playing it. I wasn't
going to go through that again.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
After shooting the bad guy, I ran and pressed the
switch. I was then presented with a gold medal with the
highest accolade - Admiral.
COMMENTS:
-
Neil:
Awful game, with a fairly decent end screen. I'd
like to score it lower, but there are worse endings
out there. 3/10.
-
Vinny:
Never watched the film; never bothered with the
game; but the game ending is okay. It's what I would
have expected. 3.5/10 from me.
- Andy Vaisey:
Borrowed this off a friend back in the day. Thought it
looked pretty, but I've played faster games of chess. A
snail-pace boring game isn't my idea of fun. The ending
is boring too. Never seen the film. Thankfully.
- Brendan Phoenix:
Was it based on a comic?
I too have never seen the film, just remember the awful
reviews and that it is remembered as one of the biggest
flops ever. Aslo remember the poor reviews to the game.
Having said that the ending screen is ok, better than
expected.
- Andrew Fisher:
The ending is probably the best bit of the game, in my
opinion! Saw the film once but that was pretty terrible
too.
- Gaz Spence:
HtD is the worst type of crass Eighties movie and
spawned an equally despicable game. 'Nuff said.
FINAL SAY:
Not
great, but at least there was something at the end of
this piece of crap.
