Now here's a strange game if ever there was one!

Hocus Focus came to my attention when someone asked me to create a crazy hack for it. At that point, I'd never seen or heard of the game - though I kind of remember seeing magazine adverts for it. I fired up the game and I was totally memorised by the complete and utter confusion that was set upon me. What IS this game? What on EARTH do you have to do? Why the HECK is that spiky haired gezza? Fortunately, I managed to get an original copy of the game from eBay and read the instructions... I was still none the wiser! Needless to say that you are a photographer and have to go around taking photos of items, and then going back to base to build one large image - a bit like a jigsaw. It's kind of fun to play, but very quirky and annoying at times!

Now you know why I hacked the ending...

Once all the pictures have been collected and compiled...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I hacked the ending to this in about 2 minutes. I spotted the ending text in the code, and I just followed a route to it. Just jump to location $564D to fire up the ending.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once you have collected and compiled all 16 photos, the ending kicks in with the message: "YOU SUCCESSFULLY COPIED 16 PATENTS". This is accompanied by a strange sound effect. This is then followed by the ending message, which reads "YOU HAVE DONE IT." This is accompanied by the game tune and then an evil laugh.

  • Vinny: To be honest with you, I wasn't expecting an ending at all, and so it was a surprise to see that David Whittaker had actually coded one in - all be it a very simple one. 1.5/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: I always felt there was an interesting idea there, just the controls and roaming ghosts made it unbearably difficult. Having shed light on the ending, I can say it lacks focus and is not in the frame for a high score.
  • Brendan Phoenix: The games you are always interested in seeing what their endings are like usually end up disappointing big time - the same with this one.
  • Andy Vaisey: Yawn.

FINAL SAY: Nothing to see here... move along!

G.E. RATING: 1.5 / 10
