Hobgoblin is crap; It's worse than Rygar. I warn you never to play this game. It's so frustrating (even with cheats), it will make you self harm! The control method is ropey, the game play is repetitive, beyond belief and the enemies appear from nowhere to kill you, sending you back a few screens. Keep your sanity and play something else.

The final screen.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:

  • Neil: Using an infinite lives cheat.

  • Vinny: I completed it by hacking the game code and building a full crazy hack with 25 extra game features, including one that takes you straight to the game ending. The crazy hack is available in the download section above.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: After about twenty minutes of awful gameplay, I stumbled upon an orb. Once approached, the game ends, with the message 'CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE RECOVERED THE GOLDEN ORB! ALTORIS IS SAFE!'. Pressing the fire button takes you to the high score table. I entered the word 'Horsesh*t'. The game then reset to the title page.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: A terrible end to a game that is complete and utter crap. 1/10.

  • Vinny: I'm not so frustrated with this game... I quite enjoyed playing through the code and getting to see all the screens... though the game is DEFINITELY a budget title!

As for the ending... there's not much there apart from the message. 1/10 from me too.
  • Andrew Fisher: Atlantis got a reputation for low quality - so much so they stopped sending games for the magazines to review. This is typical fare - basic idea, poorly executed. Terrible ending too.

FINAL SAY: Oh brother. Why do I put myself through such agony?

G.E. RATING: 1 / 10
