> HERBERT'S DUMMY RUN by Mikro-Gen

Completed & Reviewed by Vinny Mainolfi

I'm a big fan of the Mikro-Gen 'Wally' collection of games. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at them and have never personally completed one... well until now.

Frank Gasking contacted me and asked if I could create some crazy hacks for some of the old Mikro-gen games for the Commodore 64. Having spent many an hour getting nowhere in the games, I decided that it would be a great idea to hack them and so I took up Frank's request...

Herbert has completed his final task.

He jumps on the escalator...

... and heads for the rest of his family.

And now the reward...

JELLY BABIES!

Load-sa-Jelly Babies!

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I have built a crazy hack for Herbert's Dummy Run that has a whole host of new features, as well as revealing the ending. Check out the Crazy Hacks section of www.hackersoft.co.uk

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Once Herbert completes the final task, he automatically heads for the escalator and makes his way back to his family. Once he gets to the top, the screen clears and the following words appear: "HERE COME YOUR JELLY BABIES". The screen then starts to fill with hundreds of yellow jelly babies. The final ending messages then reads: "FANTASTIC! YOU HAVE FOUND WALL AND WILMA AT #:## P.M. NOW YOU CAN GO HOME AND SCOFF YOUR ## JELLY BABIES."

COMMENTS:

  • Vinny: I am astonished that this game has any kind of ending. The most I was expecting was a 'WELL DONE', but this has some animation and a few screens. All that's missing is a great piece of music and a better epilogue.
  • Gaz Spence: The falling jelly baby effect in the ending is pretty cool for an 1985 game without being jaw dropping.
  • Brendan Phoenix: I like this ending too. Great surprise for a title like this (and an oldie too)

FINAL SAY: A surprisingly good ending :)

G.E. RATING: 7 / 10
