• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Hell for Leather by Audiogenic is a side-scrolling shoot-em-up that looks and plays well but unfortunately it's not very original...

There are four dimensions to conquer - each with it's own end of level guardian to battle with. The final level is a vertically scrolling level with the last guardian. As far as shoot-em-ups go, this one is pretty good. Graphically it is far better than most, and it plays as well as many of the more well known titles. It may be one that you've not heard of so it's worth checking out.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:

  • Neil: I used an invincibility cheat.

  • Vinny: I also cheated, but I just froze the game and jumped to location $27FC (G $27FC) to see the ending.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: On destroying the last guardian you get a page of coloured text. The message reads 'CONGRATULATIONS. BY SOME MIRACLE YOU HAVE DESTROYED THE FOUR DIMENSIONS'.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Seen this too often. A lot of blasting for a lame text message. Decent game, crap ending. 1/10.

  • Vinny: Like Neil said... it's a nice enough game, but a lacklustre ending. A real let down :( 1/10 from me.
  • Andrew Fisher: I've never played this, but then it was up against big name shooters like Armalyte and Katakis so it was easy for it to get lost in the market.

A text screen is hardly going hell for leather when it comes to good endings...
  • Gaz Spence: Apparently, this game was never released due to a pre release version being stolen and spread. Maybe that explains the poor ending, maybe not.
  • Andy Vaisey: GGGRrrrrr. Congratulations my eye. Disappointing.
  • Brendan Phoenix: By some miracle I wish someone destroyed this ending rather than the 4 dimensions!

FINAL SAY: No surprise here. Standard poor shoot-em-up ending.

G.E. RATING: 1 / 10
