I completed Hammerfist on the Amiga, so I thought
I'd breeze through the C64 version. How wrong I was.
There are a few fiddly bits in the game where you have
to destroy certain lights, computers etc that shut down
the security systems on some levels. This is quite
frustrating as some of the C64 endings team will tell
you. After a little perseverance, the game was finally
complete.

Crash...

...bang...

Erm...

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
Using an infinite lives cheat and level skipper.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
On the final screen you are faced with a large alien
head. After smashing everything in sight and then
finally battering the head, the enemy explodes. You then
have to quickly jump into the explosion and head butt
it. This ends the game by separating our heroes
Hammerfist and Metalasis. The two characters appear on
separate platforms and some music plays. A message
appears confirming your victory over the bad guys and
that Hammerfist and Metalisis are free. Now the
revolution begins... and the game ends as you enter your
name into the high score table.
- Andy Vaisey:
Awesome game! Deserved a much better ending than that...
shame...
- Brendan Phoenix:
Was this made by the Vivid Team? May be wrong
with the name - was like a new-ish development
company that was going to release quality games.
Think they did the also rather excellent Time
Machine as well.
Pity they both share very very poor endings - more
of a bigger disappointment given that both of these
games offer great graphics and game play.
- Andrew Fisher:
Actually, it was by Vivid Image - a team created
by John Twiddy and Mev Dinc as they left System 3.
They also did Time Machine (one of my favourites).
Hammerfist has some gorgeous graphics and the idea
of the twin holograms is clever, it's just a shame
the control method lets it down. And that's a real
shame to find out there isn't a nice ending - surely
an animation or static picture(s) at least would
have been possible?
- Gaz Spence:
The ending's a major a let down given the
excellent graphics in game.
FINAL SAY:
A
good game which really needed a far better ending. Very
poor indeed.
