THE GREAT GIANA SISTERS

I honestly can't see what all the fuss is about with
this game. I mean - ZZAP64 magazine gave it an overall
score of 96%, but was it really worth that much? The
graphics are okay, the game play is fine, and the music
is good, and that's it. The Commodore 64 gaming
community seem to rate this one highly, but
unfortunately I must be missing the point. Can anyone
explain its popularity, please?
Thanks to Brendan Phoenix
for completing this one for us all to see...

The final MASSIVE
item to collect.

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
Easy one this - hold down the A, R, M, I & N keys and
you can skip levels - always remember that cheat!
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
Once you've collected the final item, you are presented
with a static black screen with the words: "GIANA GET
UP THE SUN HAS FRIGHTENED OFF THE NIGHT."
COMMENTS:
- Brendan: One of
the greatest ever C64 titles and one of the most
controversial. Would it have a fitting ending? Alas, it
has one of the worst endings! Static black screen with
some gumf about waking up, then on to the high score
table. Disappointing does not sum it up.
- Vinny: Now that
I have seen the ending, I reiterate that I still don't
get why this game is popular. Sorry, but this is another
cack ending to add to the collection :(
- Brendan Phoenix:
I think it does deserve the hype, was a genuine
Mario-like game for the C64 and the music on the title
screen and mid-game is one of the best C64 compositions.
Colourful graphics, good levels, hidden items, etc.
However the ending leaves a nasty taste from what we
enjoyed before. It's terrible, no new tune, nothing. The
end words even suck, not like some exciting epilogue is
it? I actually got the original for my birthday I think
- still have it around in the spare room somewhere.
On a different point, the new DS version is really
rather good. Just completed it in full and one of the
hidden features once you complete the game are the
original levels!
- Andy Vaisey: I
never really rated this game myself and never understood
the hype. Don't get me wrong, it's in no way a bad game,
just not my cup of tea. Good job I never really played
it then because the ending would have had me tearing out
my hair and smashing the TV.
- Andrew Fisher:
I love the game, love the fact that there are some
differences from Super Mario Bros, and love the fact I
have an original tape. Yes, it is a disappointing
ending.
FINAL SAY: OMG! Not another cack ending!
