Grand Prix Simulator II by Codemasters is the sequel to the popular budget race game. Although the graphics on the cars are improved, the overall graphics are not as good as the original. It all looks like a conversion of a monochrome Spectrum version to me. The game itself also doesn't play as well as the original and the playing area itself is reduced as there is a large logo at the side of the screen which is completely pointless. The idea is the same, you need to win races and beat the computer opponents in order to progress to the next track. The game isn't as good as the original, but I played it to see if the ending was better.

The final race is complete.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used a cheat that allowed me to qualify for the next race regardless of what position I finished in the previous race.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: Not a lot. Once you have finished the final track, a page appears showing the final leader board with the words 'Well done. You have become the best of the best', written above it. The game then restarts.

  • Neil: A poor sequel to a decent budget game. Blink and you will miss the ending.
  • Vinny: As I mentioned in the ending for Grand Prix Simulator, I'm definitely a sucker for this type of game, even though it's a little tacky - to say the least! The game is tacky and so you're 95% sure that the ending is going to be too. And it is. 1/10 from me too.
  • Andy Vaisey: The original Grand Prix Sim game was great in my opinion, particularly with two players and I preferred it to the official Super Sprint conversion. This sequel is not up there though; although it plays just about the same, the Speccy GFX are off-putting and there is nothing new to even warrant spending the few measly quid asked. The ending continues the theme being boring and pointless.
  • Andrew Fisher: If you can get away with selling the same game more than once, why not twice? Very ordinary, and an abysmal ending (particularly compared to the original, which at least had an extra Whittaker tune to accompany it)
  • Brendan Phoenix: Car crash of an ending and just a typical cheapo (Codemasters in particular) poor completion screen.

FINAL SAY: Terrible. I hoped for better than this.

G.E. RATING: 1 / 10
