Grand Prix Simulator by Codemasters was a very
popular budget priced race game. I remember a lot of my
friends owning a copy when we were kids. There are
twelve tracks in the game, which get more difficult as
you progress. The tracks are viewed from above and the
graphics aren't too bad, apart from the cars themselves
which are coloured rectangles with a white dot on the
front to indicate which way you are facing. The one
player mode against the computer is very tough. The
computer opponent gets better and better as the tracks
get harder and harder. Overall it's a decent race game
that requires a lot of practice. The last level is
incredibly difficult.

A Whittaker ditty and
a short message. The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I played it on an emulator, with the speed turned down
to 35%, and I saved my progress after every track.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
Track twelve is very hard to beat. The computer driver
takes the best racing line for all three laps. The only
way to beat him is to keep close to him all the way, and
then edge past him as he spins slightly on the final
corner. You can only beat him by a fraction of a second.
At the end of the race the lap times and points are
shown, while a 'CONGRATULATIONS' message scrolls
across the top of the screen. A message reading 'ALL
COURSES COMPLETED' is displayed at the bottom. The
game then loops back to level one when you press the
fire button.
