• Completed & Reviewed by Neil Collins

Ghost Town by Virgin/Marex is a side scrolling shoot-em-up. Basically, it's High-Noon meets Operation Wolf...

You control a crosshair and have to blast all the enemies and avoid shooting the goodies. There are nine levels of enemies to blast before the game is beaten. The graphics are very nice and the game plays very smoothly. The western themed backdrops and buildings are excellently drawn but the levels lack variety.

I was never a fan of these types of games, but this is probably one of the neatest.

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?: I used an infinite lives / bullets cheat.

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: If you make it through level nine, you are sent back to the start with less ammo. If you complete it again, the same thing happens. I completed it numerous times to see if anything different happened but it didn't. So the ending is a simple message. At the end of level nine the message reads 'CONGRATULATIONS!! YOU CLEARED THE TOWN OF EVIL!! LEVEL 9 COMPLETED. NOW TRY WITH LESS AMMO!!!'. The game then loops back to level one.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Not happy with this at all. Very repetitive and difficult game with a terrible ending. I'm sure a better ending could have been squeezed in there somehow. 1/10.

  • Vinny: Not my kind of game, and DEFINITELY not my kind of game ending! 1/10 from me too!
  • Andrew Fisher: Love the Geoff Follin music on this one, really suits the theme of a haunted Wild West town.

Game play is pretty good too, just a shame there isn't more variety in the attacks.

Disappointed to see it loops with just a message, the rest of the game is fairly well polished for what it is.
  • Gaz Spence: A light gun game, I think, which probably explains the limited game play although I do like the setting / atmospheric graphics. A pity that the ending is very unimaginative.

FINAL SAY: Is that all? Crikey...

G.E. RATING: 1 / 10
