GHETTOBLASTER (AKA Street Beat)
by Virgin Games
|
• Completed
& Reviewed by Neil Collins
It's the Rasta funk-fest that is Ghettoblaster. This
was a game I never had as a kid, but wanted really
badly. I played it years later at a mates house and
found it quite easy to play, but very difficult to
complete. The aim was to find and deliver 10 tapes to
the record company within the time limit and get the
citizens of the town dancing to the funky tunes.

The final tape is in
hand.

Back to the shop we
go.

The End.
HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:
I used an infinite energy cheat. There was no way I'd
complete this one without it.
SO WHAT HAPPENS?:
You enter the record company doors one last time with
the 10th demo tape and you get a message scrolling
across the screen telling you that reads: "WOW.
YOU'VE ACTUALLY MADE IT YOU NOW JOIN THE ULTRA SELECT
BAND OF MASTER BLASTERS."
COMMENTS:
- Neil: Another
poor ending. I was expecting some victory dance or
something...
- Vinny: The
programming team that created this game also produced
Jammin' and Bozo's Night Out, and so it was inevitable
that the game was going to have a fun element to it and
also some cool game play. This used to be one of my fave
games back in the day and I remember spending many a
Sunday afternoon, stuffed with my roast lunch, trying to
complete this little gem. I was a little shocked when I
read that ZZAP 64 magazine only gave it an overall score
of 69%! What?! Anyway, a lacklustre game ending that
could have been so much better than a simple one line
scrolling message. I'm going to give it a 1/10.
- Brendan Phoenix:
It's a classic game and one I could never beat -
remember getting it out at my local library (20p for the
week I think!). Naff ending - very disappointing.
- Andrew Fisher:
There's a good game in there, just a little lacking in
variety. I think my favourite of Tony Gibson's games is
Beat It (aka Jammin' 2).
- Andy Vaisey:
As The Fisher said, there was something in there
somewhere, but personally, the poor GFX used to put me
off. Shame. Ending? A big yawnfest.
FINAL SAY:
A
classic C64 with great atmosphere. It brought back fond
memories - but the end will be soon forgotten.
