Fiona Rides Out by Interceptor software is an interesting little game. It kind of looks like Cauldron (but with inferior graphics), and features a flying witch in various side-scrolling levels, interlaced with single screen platform levels. It's a case of avoiding all enemies and collecting stars and dropping them into the cauldron to boost your spell levels in order to progress to the next levels. It gets harder and harder, with little variety and irritating classical music. It's really hard to beat too - even with infinite lives. It took me some time to actually work out what you had to do. An all round poor game in my opinion. Maybe I'd have liked it if I were twenty years younger.

The final spell is cast...

The End.

HOW WAS IT COMPLETED?:

  • Neil: I just kept playing and playing. For a minute I thought it would never end. Finally it did at level twelve.

  • Vinny: I cheated and hacked my way to the end with the following code:
    • LDA #$04
    • STA $03E5
    • JMP $689B

SO WHAT HAPPENS?: As you progress, a poem is shown and lines are added to it as you go. The end level shows a spell book appearing and flashing. This is followed by a full screen page of text which is the completed poem called 'Ruddigore' by W. S. Gilbert.

COMMENTS:

  • Neil: Not a lot to see here. I found this game to be of low quality from start to finish. 2/10.

  • Vinny: I enjoyed this game - especially when I was hacking it ;-) As Neil said, the ending is merely the interludes, but with the full poem. It's a shame that Ian Gray never thought of extending the ending with a piece of animation. 2/10 from me too!
  • Andy Vaisey: Interesting game. Cop-out of an ending however...
  • Andrew Fisher: Chuck some more frog's legs in the cauldron, this ending is underdone.
  • Brendan Phoenix: Never heard of this - sounds like the title of a blue movie!

FINAL SAY: Quite poor. The end is just like the interludes between levels.

G.E. RATING: 2 / 10
